1. About This Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how SilverWare (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores and protects information about you when you use the SilverWare Android application (package name: com.silverware.app) and this website.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and to being transparent about how we handle your data, particularly the sensitive health-related information that is central to the app’s purpose.

📋

This policy is written in plain language. We want you to understand exactly what we do with your data. If anything is unclear, please contact us.

By installing or using SilverWare, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. Where we rely on your consent to process your data (including health data), you provide that consent explicitly within the app during the onboarding process.

2. Who We Are (Data Controller)

SilverWare is operated by Binary Plus Limited (“the Developer”). For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and other applicable privacy laws, we are the Data Controller for personal data processed through this app and website.

3. Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide SilverWare’s features. The categories are described below.

3.1 Account Information

When you sign in using Google Sign-In, we receive from Google:

  • Your Google account email address
  • Your display name
  • Your Google profile picture URL
  • A unique Google account identifier (used internally to link your data)

We do not receive or store your Google password. Authentication is managed entirely by Firebase Authentication (Google LLC).

3.2 Health and Wellness Data

This is the primary data the app is designed to capture. It includes:

  • Daily spoon budgets: The number of energy units (“spoons”) you set for each day
  • Activity logs: The activities you record, including their name, emoji icon, spoon cost, timestamp, and date
  • Journal entries: Your daily mood ratings, pain scale scores (0–10), free-text notes, and any custom tags you add (e.g. #fatigue, #flare, #brain-fog)
  • Journal photos (Premium): Photos you choose to attach to journal entries, stored in Firebase Storage
  • Symptom tags: Any tags you create or use within the journal
❤️

Health and wellness data is classified as special category data under GDPR. We apply the highest level of protection to this information. See Section 4 for full details.

3.3 App Settings and Preferences

  • Notification preferences (time, threshold, on/off)
  • Appearance settings (theme, font scale, colour-blind mode)
  • Default spoon budget
  • PDF export preferences

3.4 Technical and Device Data

Automatically collected when you use the app:

  • Device type and model
  • Android OS version
  • App version number
  • Crash reports and error logs (via Firebase Crashlytics, if enabled)
  • Firebase installation ID (an anonymous identifier used for app delivery)

We do not collect your device’s precise GPS location, phone number, or contacts.

3.5 Waitlist / Contact Form Data (Website Only)

If you submit your email address via the launch notification form on our website, we collect:

  • Your email address

This is used only to notify you when the app launches. We will not add you to any other mailing list without your separate consent.

4. Health and Sensitive Data — Special Protections

🛡️

The health and wellness information you enter into SilverWare (spoon logs, pain scores, mood, journal notes) constitutes health data under GDPR Article 9. This section explains the additional protections we apply.

4.1 Lawful Basis

We process your health data only on the basis of your explicit consent (GDPR Article 9(2)(a)). You provide this consent during the app’s onboarding flow before any health data is collected. You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account (see Section 8).

4.2 What We Will Never Do with Your Health Data

  • We will never sell your health data to any third party
  • We will never share your health data with advertisers or marketing companies
  • We will never use your health data to target you with advertisements
  • We will never share your health data with employers, insurers, or healthcare providers without your explicit instruction
  • We will never combine your health data with other datasets to build advertising profiles

4.3 PDF Export

The PDF export feature (Premium) generates a report from your own data, at your request, for you to share with whoever you choose (e.g. a doctor or healthcare professional). We do not receive a copy of these exported reports.

4.4 Data Minimisation

All health data you enter is voluntary. The app functions with minimal data — you choose what to record. Fields such as journal notes, pain scores, and photos are entirely optional.

5. Why We Process Your Data (Purposes and Legal Bases)

6. How and Where We Store Your Data

6.1 Firebase (Google LLC)

SilverWare stores your data using Firebase, a platform operated by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Firebase acts as our Data Processor under a Data Processing Agreement with Google.

The Firebase services we use are:

  • Firebase Authentication — manages your sign-in credentials
  • Firebase Firestore — stores your health data, activity logs, journal entries, and settings
  • Firebase Storage — stores journal photos (Premium feature)

6.2 On-Device Storage

SilverWare also caches your data locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database. This enables the app to function when offline and improves performance. This local data is removed when you uninstall the app or clear the app’s data from Android Settings.

6.3 Security Measures

  • All data transmitted between the app and Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS
  • Firebase Firestore data is encrypted at rest
  • Access to your Firestore data is protected by Firebase Security Rules — only your authenticated user ID can read or write your data
  • We do not store your Google Sign-In credentials; authentication tokens are managed by Firebase Auth
  • App code follows Android security best practices including ProGuard obfuscation in release builds

6.4 Server Locations

Firebase may process and store data in data centres located in the United States and/or the European Economic Area (EEA). Where data is transferred outside the EEA, Google ensures appropriate safeguards are in place (including Standard Contractual Clauses). See Google’s Firebase Privacy & Security page for more details.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

🔒

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share it only in the limited circumstances below.

7.1 Service Providers (Data Processors)

We share data with the following service provider, acting under our instructions as a Data Processor:

7.3 Business Transfers

If SilverWare is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via a prominent in-app notice and give you the option to delete your data before any such transfer occurs.

7.4 With Your Explicit Consent

We will only share your data with other parties if you explicitly instruct us to (for example, by using the PDF export feature to share a report with your doctor).

8. Data Retention and Deletion

8.1 Retention Period

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

  • Account and health data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Crash logs / technical data: Retained for up to 90 days, then automatically purged by Firebase

  1. Open SilverWare and navigate to Profile (tap the ⚙️ icon on the home screen)
  2. Scroll to the Data section
  3. Tap Delete Account and confirm

This immediately deletes all your data from Firebase Firestore and Firebase Storage. The deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Your local SQLite cache is also cleared.

8.3 Uninstalling the App

Uninstalling the app removes your local cached data from your device but does not automatically delete your data from our Firebase servers. To remove server-side data, please use the Delete Account feature described above before uninstalling, or contact us.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without appropriate parental consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete the information promptly.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed by Firebase (Google LLC) in the United States or other countries outside the UK and EEA. Where this occurs, Google relies on approved transfer mechanisms including:

  • Google’s Data Processing Addendum, which incorporates these safeguards

You can review Google’s data transfer safeguards at cloud.google.com/terms/data-processing-addendum.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:

  • Update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page
  • Display an in-app notification for material changes
  • Where required by law, request fresh consent for any new processing of health data

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes have been notified constitutes acceptance of the updated policy, except where fresh consent is required.
